The 2009 Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure

Breast Care Specialists is proud to sponsor the 2009 race for the cure. This event is for patients and families affected by breast cancer. Race day is Saturday September 19, 2009.

Dr. Sockrider receives a Certificate of Participation in the Mastery of Breast Surgery Pilot Program.

Spring 2009. The American Society of Breast Surgeons Mastery of Breast Surgery Pilot Program is based on the need for ongoing quality improvement in the practice of breast surgery. This program was developed to document quality outcomes in patient care.

Dr. Sockrider earns the American Society of Breast Surgeons Breast Ultrasound Certification.

January 2009. The ASBS Breast Ultrasound Certification can only be obtained after a lengthy credentialing process.

"Certification demonstrates a dedication to quality patient care and public safety through adherence to established standards for performance and training in breast ultrasound. The program will offer a means of recognition to individual surgeons who meet criteria in the areas of clinical experience, training, and quality assurance."

Quality Matters, the Mastery of Breast Surgery Program

January 2009. Medicine is undergoing quality of care analysis at all levels. Breast Care is no exception. Sisters in Support Featured in The Shreveport Times.

November 4, 2007. A local breast cancer support group, Sisters in Support, was featured in the paper with a nice overview of the groups activities. The group meets the third Saturday of every month in Shreveport.

MammoSite Partial Breast Irradiation

Dr. Sockrider discusses MammoSite partial breast irradiation in "New radiation therapy gives breast cancer patients a more direct treatment option". The Shreveport Times March 17, 2007.

Dr. Sockrider discusses the MammoSite breast radiation catheter that allows selected patients to receive their radiation treatment in one week. This is a substantial imporovement to the traditional 6-8 weeks of treatment. Jan 24, 2007 KTBS Healthwatch.

First Cryoablation in Louisiana for Breast Fibroadenoma

In 2006, Dr. Sockrider performed the first cryoablation for fibroadenoma of the breast in Louisiana.  Cryoablation, a technique that uses freezing, has been FDA approved for the treatment of benign fibroadenomas of the breast.  This therapy will destroy the tumor without surgery. For benign lumps, patients can avoid surgery completely.

Dr. Sockrider was a guest on The Best Of Times Radio Hour live at the Susan G. Komen "Race for the Cure".  Dr. Sockrider and Dr. Chad Hargon, a medical oncologist, discussed breast cancer and received questions. Saturday, September 16th, 2006 AM 1130 KWKH.

Breast biopsy without surgery

Dr. Sockrider interviewed. The topic was "Breast Biopsy without Surgery". The availability and benefits of this technique were discussed. KTBS Healthwatch on August 29, 2006.
